COMMUNION ANNOUNCE JUNE CLUBNIGHT
South London four-piece Osca dive straight into 2015 with their latest single, Smoke. The leading track on their debut EP, Blood, was picked up and played as Zane Lowe’s Next Hype and also received support from other Radio One shows including Huw Stephens, Jen & Ally, Alice Levine and Phil Taggart. XFM added the track to their evening playlist and Jason Kramer at KCRW played all four tracks from the EP. The band also became one of the most blogged about artists of 2014 with all four of their tracks making it into the top 20 at Hype Machine at the same time. The next single Smoke and the accompanying B-Side Sleeptalk build on the band’s foundation of classic songwriting accompanied by cutting edge production. After performing consecutive sold out shows here in London and buzzing sets at Live at Leeds and Great Escape Festivals, the band returns to headline the June Clubnight.
Ady Suleiman (UK)
Introducing the mercurial musical talent of a half English, half Tanzanian young man who hails from the outskirts of Nottingham and goes by the name of Ady Suleiman. A deft songwriter and a singer with soulful brilliance, Ady’s timelessly classic yet fresh sound has garnered fans ranging from Chance the Rapper and Joey Bada$$ through to Labrinth and Michael Kiwanuka. After being spotted by BBC Introducing’s Dean Jackson, the 22 year old has supported the likes of Laura Mvula and Lianne Le Havas on tour, performed at Glastonbury, Reading & Leeds and Bestival, and picked up a ‘Breakthrough Act of the Year’ award at Gilles Peterson’s Worldwide Awards. Currently busy in the studio, Ady is set to release his debut EP (State of Mind) via Pemba Records in May 2015.
Nathan Ball (UK)
London via Cornwall singer-songwriter Nathan Ball began his career with just him, a guitar and a unique, stirring voice that landed him support slots with Mercury Prize winners alt-JΔ, Gabrielle Aplin and Amber Run. A year later, 25-year-old Nathan has re-emerged a Gibson endorsed musician with a darker and more expansive sound, now performing with his four-piece band – Kitty on cello, Will on drums and Max on guitar. From stripped back acoustica to epic electric instrumentals, Nathan and his band occupy that cinematic soundscape inspired by the intimate artistry of Daughter, Bon Iver, Foals and Junip.
Brighton based MarthaGunn are a contemporary five piece currently recording their latest material. A bedrock of red-blooded bass and drums supports interweaving guitars to make way for the delicately fierce lyrics and melody delivered by their front woman. Combined, MarthaGunn create a vintage sound with a modern slant that had a recent live review praising the band. ‘It is rare for smaller bands to have this kind of professional attitude towards setting their songs up to fully support the vocals instead of just having everything going mental all at once. There were some really great, catchy songs like ‘Heaven’ and ‘She’s a Tiger,’ that had the crowd nodding heads in unison.’
A. O. S. O. O. N (UK)
Following the release of their acclaimed ‘What Is This About’ EP, South-London male-female duo A.O.S.O.O.N aka Marisa Hylton and Manny Folorunso release new ‘CAPO 3’ EP. A.O.S.O.O.N’s debut EP featured the captivating single ‘Under’ which was picked up by Majestic Casual and to date has received over 4.5million views on Youtube. Supported across the likes of The Line of Best Fit, Earmilk + BBC Radio 1’s Zane Lowe, & Huw Stephens, A.O.S.O.O.N are ones to watch in 2015. “The climatic structure preys on your senses to the final bar, leaving you obliterated mentally and physically.” – The Line of Best Fit
Natalie McCool (UK)
Sliding tightly in between the likes of Alt J’s alt-pop and Lorde’s mainstream appeal, McCool’s signature sound is her coaxing and ever-morphing voice that darts playfully over a backdrop of offset beats and jagged guitar lines that are almost reminiscent of Prince. The way the production compliments the songwriting is extremely interesting – commercial choruses uniquely teamed with a sound that sits slightly to-the-left really catches the ear here. With accolades from some of the world’s biggest tastemakers including NYLON, Vogue and Wonderland, not to mention a flood of praise from blog giants The Line of Best Fit, Pigeons & Planes and The Music Ninja, “Pins” has turned a sea of heads in Natalie’s direction – with all of them hitting the replay button.
