| Gringo
Da Parada
helped launch Favela Chic in Paris's Rue Oberkampf back in 1995 and
ten year's later he did the same again for Favela Chic in Great Easern
Street. At Disorder and Progress he takes us on a monthly
musical merry-go-round which isn't so much eclectic as a total party
pick 'n' mix, a place where Serge Gainsbourg, the Stone Roses, Seu Jorge
and the Rolling Stones bump up against each other in the mix and you
hear classic grooves you'd almost forgotten you loved so much, whether
it's Brazilian bossa nova and baile funk or punk and techtronica.
Disorder and Progress (Brazilian ex-patriots will recognize
the pun on the words inscribed on their national flag: ordem e progresso)
is well-named. Gringo Da Parada revels in adventurous eclecticism and
inventive juxtaposition and would run a mile to get away from monotonous
minimalism, but you won't have to run too: just jump aboard this musical
rollercoaster to end the month in style.

The Firewater Society and Notting Hill Arts Club
proudly present West London's first true (and long overdue) industry
night - Firewater Club, inviting all of London town's
well-seasoned bon vivants to gather for a special monthly drinking occasion,
complete with all the requisite garnishes.
Fuelling the fire and acting host for the night are The Invasion
Of... five very familiar faces at the Arts Club, who met and
discovered a mutual love for bourbon and music at Alan McGee's legendary
Death Disco night. From drunken jam sessions to hotly-tipped band-to-watch
in 2010, The Invasion Of... comprises Gary Powell (of
Libertines fame), Robin Coombes aka Farma G (of Task Force fame), Neil
Montier and the the brothers Julian Bayuni and Andre Bayuni (all three
of Arts Club fame). The band will be providing the perfect musical backdrop
for all the shenanigans with a punchy live set (and as DJs too). 'Gary's
new band are brilliant. Absolutely brilliant,' wrote Mr McGee in his
blog, [they] 'blend 'punk-rock rage with the power of soul in a way
I've not heard since the amazing debut album (and lost punk masterpiece)
by Detroit band Death.' www.theinvasionof.com

Russ Jones, The
Hackney Globe Trotter, adventurer,
anthropologist, cultural instigator, lion tamer and DJ is taking a wander.
Traversing from the far and exotic east to the wild and new frontiers
of the west. He won't quite be rocking it in Bejing or unearthing hidden
treasures in El Salvador as on previous expeditions but this time staying
firmly grounded in Old London Town to entertain the Hillbillies of Notting
Hill, the wild folk of rural Kensington and maybe even expecting a few
visitors from the bush (Shepherds). As always it will be somewhat of
a musical journey armed with only 45s, 33s and top secret CDs, from
the darkest african roots, sleaziest big band mambos, jump jives, punk
to funk, mash up to techno rave up, salsa dancehall, cumbia hip hop,
dubstep steppers, tropicalli swingers, gypsy scorchers, oriental ska
anthems and downunder rasta rumblings. Occasional Saturdays.
